Beach Wedding Memory Box October 16, 2011

Before I start building a memory box, I gather all the items I think I will decorate it with and make sure they look good together.  Just like this snapshot below.

Doesn’t it just make you want to sail away to a secluded island with bright blue water and pink, sandy beaches, a cold beer and your best friends? Oh geez, I guess I’m needing a vacation! We are cruising to the Southern Caribbean in January and I just can not wait!

My dear friend Chrissy is basking in the warm sunlight on a swanky beach somewhere in Mexico right now with her new husband Scott and their families. Well, Chrissy is probably sitting by the pool 🙂  They got married yesterday and I designed this box around their beach wedding.  I was able to give it to her a few weeks ago at her shower and she loved it, yay!

I knew I wanted to use bright blue textured paper to represent ocean water and a creamy colored papery and accents to represent sand but had no idea what else to do. So, I wandered around hobby lobby for awhile and it just came to me!

My favorite thing about this box is the “rope”. It’s actually trim from the section in Hobby Lobby where you get all the stuff to make window dressings.

I kept the inside of the box really simple.

I really like how the glass beads bring that glassy water feeling to the piece and seriously, how cute is the fishing net with the big star fish stuck in it?

So happy for you Chrissy & Scott! Now I can’t wait to see all the photos from the wedding!

Smiles!

My friend Nikki who lives in Minnesota sent me an envelope full of memories from her sister’s recent wedding. Everything from shower invitations and photos of the couple to bachelorette party keepsakes and the gorgeous wedding invite itself. Having all of these items made this memory box even more special it allowed me to create the entire piece and add elements I normally wouldn’t get to.  This was such a fun project that really took me to another level with my creations. Thanks Nikki!!

I purchased the chipboard for the box, book cloth and papers from my favorite paper store – Hollander’s. The ribbon is from one of Hobby Lobby’s fabulous 50% off sales!! And the buttons are from my favorite junk store – Tiede’s – in Overton, NE.

I really like this style of box – a basic hinged lid box.  It allows to do some fun stuff with clasps or ribbons to securely close the box.

And a fun little surprise when you open the box – a beautiful photo of the happy couple!

Here you can see several bundles of keepsakes secured with a bow and accented with some beautiful but artificial greenery!  Similar to that on their invitation you see on the front of the box.  This is a great little keepsake for Nikki’s sister.  Thanks for a fun project Nikki!

And up next. . . another memory box but this time for a baby girl.  My good friend Jami is giving this to special friends who recently had a baby girl.  On the left is a photo from the nursery that Jami sent me before hand so I’m matching the colors and style.

Can’t wait to share this new creation with you!!

Smiles,

Megan

Dreaming of warm sandy beaches. . . January 5, 2010

As I drove home from a late meeting tonight in this incredibly frigid snow covered evening I was dreaming of warm sandy beaches, beautiful clear blue skies and cozy ocean water. It reminded me of a colorful little gift I put together for my friends Jim and Jami who were married in April in the Cayman Islands (they are oh so smart, aren’t they?)

Jami had very tropical colors in her bouquet including hot pink, bright teal blue and yellow and she loves orchids. So I put them all together with some textured papers purchased at Dick Blick.

I found this beautiful silk orchid at one of my regular haunts, Hobby Lobby!

I also happened to design their invitations and therefore incorporated the font and text style into their memory box.

Thanks Jami and Jim for providing us a mental escape to warmer climates during this chilly time of year!

Smiles,

Megan

I just completed this memory box for my friend Amy.  Her brother Ted married a beautiful woman named Stephanie and Amy wanted to give them a unique gift that represented their special day.

All the box making materials and papers were purchased online at Hollanders.com.  The other little treasures were found everywhere from Silver Bella to Tiede’s, my favorite junk store!

Amy said their wedding was going to be very classy and elegant, Silver and Black with a touch of red, so that’s what I went from.

The photo corners will fit a 5×7 photo and the flowers at the top left are a velvety black I purchased at Silver Bella.

Detail

Detail 2A subtle way to include names of the bride and groom and date of the event.

After unwrapping the bow and opening the top, this is the pretty you will find.

Button FlowerA flower made of a mixture of vintage and modern, glass and plastic buttons.  Love this detail.

Congratulations Ted & Stephanie!
